Services

All of the following services are carried out in my studio.

CONSERVATION

Where appropriate a conservation approach may be taken when dealing with your piece. This involves stabilising the textile in its current state to prevent further damage or wear. Services can include surface cleaning, couching loose threads and stitches, or stabilising holes and weak areas. We may protect fragile areas from further damage using conservation net. In line with current practice, all our conservation work is reversible.

RESTORATION

Restoring a piece to its former glory may involve replacing missing stitches, or repairing holes in the ground fabric. our Studio staff are trained in canvas re-weaving to strengthen and repair canvas work.

REPRODUCTIONS

Sometimes it is appropriate to conserve and archive an original piece and to create a reproduction. We can produce a piece in authentic stitches and the original colours (as seen on the back of an item) or in the existing faded colours. We can also re-embroider sections that may have been lost, worn away or damaged.

TRANSFER OF EMBROIDERY

If the embroidery is in good condition but the background fabric is worn we can transfer it to new background fabric. We have transferred ecclesiastical embroidery and organisation banners to give them a new lease of life.

NEW COMMISSIONS

We can monogram, add motifs, dates, or even a personal message, to christening gowns, bedspreads, table cloths, clothes etc. These make very personal presents for a special occasion which then become a precious heirloom for the future.

Embroidering or monogramming a family christening robe is a wonderful tradition to start or continue. We create beautiful monograms as well as undertaking the cleaning and repair of christening robes.

Our studio team can also clean, repair and fit heirloom wedding veils and embroider all wedding items including veils, buttons and ring cushions to create a truly personalised piece for that special day.

CLEANING & PACKING SERVICES

Fabrics which have not been cleaned are prone to decay from mounting or storage materials such as card, wood and non-acid-free tissue paper which can lead to irreversible damage and a short life-span of the piece.

The Studio can remount work and provide acid-free and conservation grade storage solutions.

FINISHING SERVICES

We offer a finishing service which includes:

  • mounting on to museum grade acid-free card ready for framing
  • lining your textile ready for hanging
  • completing your unfinished embroidery and making it up into a finished piece.

Custom Kits and Designs

We also design and hand paint custom needlepoint canvases, crewel work kits and another technique you may wish. We will design it to your requirements and provide all the threads and materials needed to complete your unique piece.

We also offer lots of brilliant classes and courses for you to get involved in.
